“Without community, there is no liberation…but community must not mean a shedding of our differences, nor the pathetic pretense that these differences do not exist.”

Pursuing Joy, Finding Community

I have found myself drawn to the theory that God is a community. I think about the story of Creation and the Image of God. I believe that the image referred to is creation itself. Not only us as humans but how all of creation relates to one another. The way we see and value our neighbors, our land, our resources – there is something so beautiful about seeing God as a person or a being but as a connection to others. It allows us to take care of each other, and to find purpose and beauty in the land, and when we do all of this, we create this vision of God we see in Genesis.

This is my aim in life. My unachievable goal is to remain in the goodness of connection with Creation. This drives the way I live, although not perfect, it is my moral compass. I believe that radical care and love of our neighbors can breed more radical care and love.

When you experience my art, I hope that you feel that.

Sincerely,

Lyssa
