So the past few months, quarantine has been filled with singing along to iconic Broadway musicals! I was supposed to see Waitress in April, but now I have to wait until December, so I began going into a deep hole of new musicals, iconic classics, and even managed to watch a few. Here are my major findings:
- Dear Evan Hanson is completely different when you watch it verses just listening to the soundtrack – the emotion gets so raw and real as Ben Platt really does the character justice, he IS the character!
- Heathers is still THAT show even among Mean Girls and Legally Blonde – It will forever be one of my favorite musicals. The acting is on point, the music perfect, and the cast is everything.
- Musical Theater side of Tik Tok is a vibe – I can’t explain the vibe, but I know I love it.
- Hadestown doesn’t get enough credit – the idea is so different and the music is beautiful, I definitely want to see it in all of its glory.
- Six has music that should be charting on billboard – that music should be on pop charts. period. Maybe even in the club, I mean GET DOWN!
- Words Fail is the best song in Dear Evan Hanson – I was upset when I really got into the song and realized how good it was. So full of emotion and heart. It should be the number one song of the musical.
- Legally Blonde is ‘so much better’ than I expected! – Watching it, the cast was perfect and almost made me like the musical more than the movie! I would even put it above Mean Girls…
- Hamilton is really good but definitely overrated – I love Hamilton, but there are other really good musicals out there…but I do realize Hamilton was a gateway for those who were not really into musicals.
- Lin Manuel really did that with In the Heights – I mean Breathe is my jam and I cannot wait to see the movie adaptation!
